Six suspects arrested and charged in connection with the gruesome murder early this year of John Oola Omona, the former Gulu Municipal Deputy Town Clerk are to spend Christmas behind bars.
This was after they appeared before Gulu Grade One Magistrate’s Court presided over by Yunus Ndiwalana remanded them until December 28, 2017 because of a strike by prosecutors.
The suspects appeared before court on Wednesday last week. The suspects were entitled to mandatory bail after they were first charged in June. But a strike by state prosecutors across the country over a pay raise means the suspects will spend more time in jail.
The suspects are Martin Akena (20) and George Oryem. They were the first to be arrested and charged in connection with the Oola’s murder. Later, police arrested more suspects including: Emmanuel Komakech (23), Denis Uhuru (25), Francis Okello (33), Denis Otim (32) and Sharon Akello (22).
Prosecution contends that on June 22, 2017 at Kanyagoga ‘B’ in Kanyagoga parish in Bar-Dege division, Gulu Municipality the seven murder John Oola Omona.
