Police in Amuru district is holding three people on allegations of owning illegal weapons.

The three are Flavia Akech, 42, a resident of Inamo parish in Inamo sub county Apac district, Vincent Otema, a driver and Ronald Kisire, a boda boda rider.

They were arrested last week at Uganda- South Sudan border security check point in Bibia pariah Attiak Sub County.

The three were allegedly found in possession of 13 Sub Machine Gun-SMG magazines with 390 rounds of ammunition, 17 grenades, 596 ammunition for Sub Machine Gun, 145 PK chained ammunition, 348 PK loose ammunition, 2 pistols with 3 rounds of ammunition, 2 pouches and 2 bags labelled ‘‘SPLA national security’’.

Aswa river region police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said the key suspect among the arrested is Flavia Akech.

According to Okema, Akech boarded a bus from Juba, South Sudan to Nimule border point but dodged a military check point, got off the Noah registration UAP 771K which was being driven by Vincent Otema and boarded a motorcycle registration number UDK 242A ridden by Ronald Kisire.

Police say the trio was arrested after police became suspicious of their movements.
