Two inmates are nursing bullet wounds after being shot while trying to escape from Pece Prisons in Laroo-Pece division in Gulu City.

The inmates have been identified as Kennedy Ocaya, a murder convict and Alex Oyet, convicted of theft and burglary. The duo attempted to escape on Friday evening at around 6:00 p.m.

Harrison Okuti, a prison warder at the facility said that the two forced their way out of the prison facility during a routine head count and jumped over the prison well during a headcount.

Another prison officer who was at the observation point shot the two inmates in the legs.

The inmates are receiving treatment at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital under the watch of prison staff.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said that a case of escape from lawful custody has been preferred against the two at Gulu Central Police Station.

This is the third time inmates are escaping from Pece prison in 2020.
