Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters in Kitgum municipality are unhappy after unknown people defaced campaign pictures of the party’s presidential candidate Dr Kiiza Besigye.

The campaign posters of Denis Onekalit Amere, FDC’s candidate for the Kitgum municipality seat have also been defaced.

Cano-kema Denis a member of Denis Onekalit Amere’s camp said on they woke up on Monday to find posters of Besigye pulled down.

Cano-Okema says he is suspicious that the pulling down of posters for FDC candidates is either the work of independent candidates or the NRM. He did not mention who the independent candidates are. But Kitgum woman Member of Parliament Beatrice Anywar who fell out with the FDC leadership after he supported independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi is running on the independent ticket. This was after the FDC leadership instead chose Denis Onekalit Amere as its candidate for Kitgum municipality instead of Anywar.

Alfred Amoi the Kitgum district FDC party Chairperson described the pulling-down of FDC posters as unfortunate and warned that anyone found defacing the party’s candidates’ campaign poster will be dealt with according to the laws.

Defacing campaign posters violates section 78 of the Presidential Elections Act and once found guilty, the suspects are liable to a fine, or imprisonment for one year, or both.
