Nwoya police on Friday arrested five suspects in connection with the theft of two vehicles from Kampala.

The suspected thieves were intercepted by police today at 11:30 am at Wii Anaka in Got Apwoyo Sub County.

Dan Okello, the Nwoya district police commander declined to reveal the identity of the five suspects for fear of jeopardising investigations but he said the suspects were attempting to smuggle the cars into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

One of the vehicles is a Toyota Noah white in colour registration number UAP 884J. The registration of the second car had not been obtained at the time of filing this report.

In February this year three suspects were arrested from Karuma by police in Nwoya after stealing a car registration number UAQ 343A from Kampala.

Police in Nwoya say they have recovered a total of nine stolen vehicles since January 2016.
