Oola Dan Odiya( in blue shirt) has been released after nearly a year in jail. His lawyer Nicholas Opiyo told Acholi Times Mr Odiya was released by court Tuesday

Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) National Deputy Mobilizer Oola Dan Odiya has been released from detention by the civil division of the high court in Kampala, his lawyer Nicholas Opiya  has told Acholi Times in an exclusive. Opiyo said the high court also put a permanent injunction against the army from trying Oola Dan Odiya.

Mr Odiya and two others—Otto Kenneth and Ojok Sam Obama were last year charged with five counts including treason, concealment of treason, two counts of murder by shooting, attempted murder and murder.

The Director of Public Prosecution had in January discounted proceeding against Mr Oola, Kenneth Otto and Sam Ojok Oboma.

‘‘This is to inform Court that the Director of Public Prosecution has decided to discontinue proceedings against Oola Dan Odiya, Otto Kenneth and Ojok Sam Obama,’’ read the DDP’s letter dated 11th of January 2017. The letter was signed by Mike Chibita, the Director of Public Prosecutions and addressed to  the Gulu Chief Magistrate’s court.

The accused were however  re- arrested by security operatives  who stormed the Gulu court  and whisked away the suspects in a private car with tinted windows registration number UAZ992M. THe operatives were said to have been members of the Police Flying Squad which handles hardcore crime.
