Thirty juveniles have escaped from Gulu remand home in Pece Prisons in Gulu Municipality.
Mark Kimera the Assistant Probation Officer Gulu Remand Home said that the juvenile fled from the facility on Monday evening at about 7:00 p.m after overpowering, Joseph Kilama, the in-charge of the facility.
Mr Kimera explained that the youngers forced their way out of the facility and jumped over the gate and escaped. By press time none of them had been arrested. Those who escaped are part of 69 juveniles in detention at the facility.
Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema said on Tuesday evening that the juveniles after attacking the officer at the facility as he tried to lock the facility gate.
Those who escaped were all males, accused of simple and capital offences. They were arrested from across Acholi sub region including Nwoya, Gulu, Kitgum and Pader districts.
A case of escape from lawful custody is being investigated at Gulu Central Police Station under CRB 264/2020.
