A Gulu Pastor and 50 members of his congregation were on Sunday morning arrested for conducting prayers in contravention of Covid-19 guidelines.

Kenneth Cupu of Grace Church of Christ in Gulu West Division in Gulu City was found in the church praying with 50 others after police stormed the church.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said in an interview that police was tipped off and responded by arresting the worshippers who have been charged with negligent act likely to spread infectious disease contrary to section 171of the penal code act.

Okema also warned other places of worship against conducting prayers saying the government has not yet made any formal communication about the opening of places of worship.

In March, President Museveni ordered for the closure of all public places including places of worships, bars, disco halls, among others as a preventative measure to stop the spread of the novel virus.
