Youth in Acholi sub region have formed a pressure group to demand for better service delivery from leaders ahead of the 2016 Uganda’s general elections.
Under their umbrella ‘Acholi Youth Agenda’, the youth say the group is not aligned to any political organization and neither is it to serve any political interests.
Their main agenda is to tackle poverty, diseases such as HIV/Aids and development issues as former displaced persons struggle to rebuild their lives.
Mr Fred Ongom, one of the members says the idea arose from the failure of the current leaders to address some of the post war challenges facing families at the return sites.
Another member, Mr Richard Jomeo accused the current leaders of fulfilling their selfish interests instead of working for the common good.
According to Jomeo, “It is now up to the new generation instead of leaders who worked during the war to take the lead in agitating for better services for the communities in Acholi since those entrusted with power have failed.”
He said political leaders have deliberately failed to groom those who will succeed them and instead the youth are being coached on how to sing party slogans and to carry campaign posters.
Mr Andrew Ogwetta- Otto also a member says their dream is to create a common voice for Acholi people.
“Eevery minute that passes counts and Acholi should find a better way of resolving their problems since elected leaders do not share the vision of the common man who is affected with every decision made by those in authority,” Ogwetta said.
They are looking forward to engaging the Acholi cultural institution- Ker Kwaro Acholi and other individuals in Acholi.
Acholi Youth Agenda has a slogan of “Pi Roco Dwoko Deyo Pa Kaka.”

Achoil youth agenda, stop this nonsense about leadership, or that you should have been groomed for the leadership position. A leader is not groomed. All this fascination to be a leader start with you doing the right thing within your community. When have any of you performed volunteer work for your community or your neighborhood and made a difference? Please stop this ” Monday morning/night quarter backing”. We have Kaveras strewn all over Gulu municipal. Ask yourself this, When have you or any of you made an effort to pick them up and made Gulu clean of these messy kaveras. What about volunteer work at schools or even coach youth in sport, so you could teach this young kids with art of team work. I could go on and on, but YOU need to make a difference in your community, rather than complains and hip blames on those you all think are leaders.
