Ms Sharon Balmoyi Laker of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party who is an aspirant for the Gulu District Woman Member of Parliament (MP) has defied her party officials and insisted that she will run in the party primaries.
NRM senior officials earlier demanded that Laker should step down in favour of Ms Catherine Lamwaka, the Gulu former Resident District Commissioner (RDC).
Two of the NRM members including Ms Renny Joyce Alima, the current District Deputy Speaker and Ms Rose Nyapolo, the District Woman Councilor for Ongako Sub County have already expressed intention to step down in favour of Lamwaka.
This follows a meeting chaired by Richard Todwong, the Deputy Secretary for the ruling party.
But after a meeting chaired by Ms Martine Kizza Aboga, the Gulu District NRM Chairperson late last week in an attempt to resolve the standoff, Laker came out adamant saying she is the best candidate.
Laker who is to face off Ms Betty Aol Ocan (FDC), the incumbent District Woman MP questioned the yardstick used in gauging that Lamwaka is the best candidate for the party.
She said the plan by her party officials to persuade her against her to give up her ambition was against her will.
Laker said the meeting called was a sign of disrespect describing it as a smear campaign to kill her political dream.
Though they are three for the party primaries set for September this year, Laker believes that she will sail through.
In a letter dated, July 19, Aboga had called all the six aspirants of his party who have expressed interest to become the official party flag bearer in the 2016 parliamentary race for a consultative meeting to address what he described as indiscipline cases among the members.

Stick to your guns! What’s the point of the primaries then, if only one candidate is to be channeled through? Who is she going to stand against?
