Mr Gilbert Olanya, the Member of Parliament for Kilak County in Amuru district has fired back at President Yoweri Museveni saying he has only himself to blame for the woes for his people.

Addressing a rally at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu town on Friday evening, MP Olanya said he has been a leader for only four years while Museveni has served Uganda as a President for the last 30 years.

“What has President Museveni done for the people of Amuru since he assumed office? There is nothing to show completely,” MP Olanya said angrily.

He also questioned if there is a single Minister in the current Museveni’s government who comes from Amuru.

“You are a whole President. That means you are responsible for the welfare of the citizens. If you look critically, there is no single student who is benefiting under the State House scholarship scheme,” Olanya adds.

The Amuru legislator said President Museveni’s personal attack on him for the underdevelopment of Amuru district was surprising considering the fact that he has come into leadership before he was elected as an MP.

He accused the President of relying on half baked information in order to attack him something he described as disgraceful.

“He (Museveni) has appointed people (advisors) who cannot do work perfectly well and he is now blaming everyone for his own problem,” noted Olanya.

Olanya challenged the President to allow people of Amuru to decide what they want to do with their land instead of imposing investors on them.

According to the Amuru lawmaker, the people of Amuru are not desperate and should not be intimidated.

In July this year, while commissioning the 74-kilometre Gulu-Atiak road at Mican in Bar- Dege Division, Gulu Municipality, President Museveni accused MP Olanya of sabotaging government programmes in Amuru District.

The President said that the legislator has been at the forefront in opposing a government proposal of establishing a sugar factory in the district by Madhvani Group of Companies.

Museveni also accused Olanya of mobilizing women in Apaa Parish, Pabbo Sub-county, to strip before two ministers in April.

He accordingly asked the electorate to vote Olanya out of Parliament in the 2016 general elections.
