Gulu Chief Administrative Officer, Dorothy Ajwang, has asked sub counties to work harder in raising local revenue which in turn can be used for development work in their areas.
Ajwang said many people in the sub counties engage in the buying and selling of charcoal yet they don’t pay any taxes to the sub county.
The CAO who described the sub county chiefs as lazy urged them to wake up because the local revenue collection figure is alarmingly low.
She was speaking yesterday during a Baraza program organized by the office of the prime- minister in Awach Sub County.
The Awach Sub County Chief, George Okello announced that in the financial year 2013-2014, the sub county collected only 4.2 million shillings in local revenue.
Ajwang said that the internal revenue projection of the Sub County should go to 7 million in the next financial year, and internal revenue collection should continuously rise every financial year.
