Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the incumbent Gulu District LCV Chairperson has been declared winner with 35,000 votes, beating three opponents.
Mapenduzi was declared winner today morning by Benson Obete, the Gulu district returning officer.
Mapenduzi, a Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate polled 41, 359 votes while NRM’s Billy Graham Olanya came second with 5,984 votes. Wilfred Nyeko, an independent candidate came third with 2,433 votes.
In the 2011 elections, Mapenduzi garnered 32, 297 votes beating his closest rival, the late (rtd) Col. Walter Ochora Odoch, an NRM party candidate who polled 18, 707.
Mapenduzi replaced Democratic Party President Norbert Mao, as Gulu district Chairman.
Gulu Local Government Speaker Douglas Peter Okello is likely to retain his Lalogi seat. Okao is also NRM Gulu Chairman.
So far, only three NRM candidates have retained their seats with FDC has captured Ongako and Patiko Sub Counties in the district Councilor seat.
