Nwoya NRM chairperson Ross Nyeko has blamed the party’s poor performance in the parliamentary elections to ‘‘over confidence’’ and ‘‘relaxing’’ after the NRM primary elections.
Judith Peace Achan the flag bearer in the race for Nwoya district lost to incumbent Lilly Adong who stood as an independent after losing in the NRM primary elections.
The NRM candidate for the Nwoya County seat, Sunday Opio Ahmed lost to FDC’s Simon Oyet.
Adong independent won the elections with 12,516 while NRM’s Achan got 9,003. For Nwoya County FDC’s Simon Oyet won with 8,187. NRM’s Opio came second with 4,504 votes.
In an interview with Acholi Times, Mrs. Nyeko said the two never bothered to pay a visit to the party office and consult with party officials.
Nyeko also said the two NRM candidates instead of holding joint campaigns were moving in different directions and de-campaigning one another.
‘‘There is no way you can abandon the main office [NRM party office] which receives information from various sources like the two did,’’ said Nyeko, suggesting their loss was because of the party candidates in the district not working with party officials.
The Nwoya district NRM Chairperson also blamed the loss on NRM Secretariat’s delay to disburse funds to party candidates.
She said independent candidates and candidates from other parties took advantage of NRM flag bearers not being on the ground due to a lack of resources.
Mrs. Nyeko, however, hailed voters in Nwoya for voting for President Museveni. Museveni got 9,750 votes in Nwoya in the recent elections compared to 4,863 in 2011.
“I believe Museveni’s votes was able to double in Nwoya this year because of the good development he brought to the district like the renovation of Anaka Hospital and construction of the Anaka- Olwiyo- Gulu road.
Achan Judith Peace has disputed the election result citing irregularities. It is not yet clear whether she will go to court over the results.

What the heck is this poor lady talking about? What would she say if M7 was the one who had built Anaka Hospt? And you said M7 has built good road? Gulu Atiak road is killing more people than any road built in Uganda, why? You so called M7 supporters in Acholi districts deserve imprisonment when the man goes either by default or accident.
