Nwoya district Chairman Patrick Okello Oryema has expressed concern that political differences among councilors is hampering the work of the district council.
Mr Oryema’s remarks follow a decision by councilors in the district council not to pass the Nwoya district budget.
“There seems to be a lot of political influence from difference political parties that in a way is affecting the running of council,’’ Oryema said.
‘‘Unless the councilors realize the purpose for which they were entrusted by the electorate then service deliver in the community is going to get hindered,” Mr. Oryema added.
Nwoya district has a total of 21 councilors which includes 9(Independent), 7 (NRM), 3(DP) and two (FDC).
On August 31, the councilors declined to pass the district’s supplementary budget of 1.7 billion shillings accusing the district technocrats over failure to produce the report for the financial year 2015/2016.
Betty Atim, the councilor representing Lii Sub County said action of the technocrats suggest they (technocrats) are hiding something.
“We gave them one solid one month to work on the report but nobody is willing to present it before us then who are we to approve something we don’t understand,” she said.
The councilors unanimously resolved not to approve the budget until the technocrats present to them the supplementary budget report for financial year 2015/2016.
Tony Okello the Speaker Nwoya has since deferred the budget to the next full council meeting in October 2016.
Nwoya LC5 Chairman Patrick Oryema said if the hospital [Anaka hospital] runs into a crisis due to a lack of money, the councilors [who refused to pass the budget will take the blame].
