A 29-year-old man has been charged in the Gulu High Court for raping a 79-year old woman.
Richard Odongo, a resident of Okii village in Koch Goma Sub County in Nwoya district allegedly raped the 79-year old on the night of April 14, 2016.
The victim who cannot be named due to legal issues told police that Odongo forcefully entered her house, dragged her out and raped her.
Odongo was arrested by police and accordingly charged with rape.
Rape is a capital offence and can attract a maximum sentence of death.
According to a medical examination report conducted from Anaka General Hospital that was presented as evidence before court, the victim sustained bruises on her back and had difficulty in walking as a result of the alleged rape.
Gulu High court Judge Stephen Justice Mubiru adjourned the cases to May 29, 2019 when prosecution is expected to produce its last witness, a police officer who arrested the suspected rapist.
